You’ve turned me into a Wax Mat user for sure!

Aloha David,

Big mahalo for letting me sample the Wax Mat. I tried it out this morning in some smaller surf and it is incredible. I can’t wait to try it in some real surf so I can test the traction at higher speeds/power, but in the small surf it felt like it would handle no problem in bigger surf.

Regarding rash: If I don’t surf for a week or so, the next time I get on a board I usually get rash from the wax and abrasion. The feel of the Wax Mat while paddling is almost soft/cushiony on the stomach/chest while still providing enormous amounts of grip and I don’t think I would be prone to rash even if I haven’t surfed for a while.

Regarding grip/traction: The first time I stood up on the Wax Mat it was a very strange feeling because it is smooth under your feet and not bumpy like wax. My mind was playing tricks on me cause I kept thinking I was standing on an un-waxed board, but my footing never slipped at all. After the 3rd/4th wave, your feet get used to the feeling and it’s absolutely incredible how grippy the mat feels.

Regarding even distribution: One of the biggest issues I personally have with wax is after a single session when the waves are good, all the wax under my front foot gets pushed/smooshed/moved from where I want it and I have to re-apply a quick coat before my next session. The Wax Mat eliminates all need to do that and provides consistent, 100% grip results exactly where you want/need it every time.

Regarding weight: I would have to do some weight test to confirm this, but the board I used felt a little heavier than if I were to have waxed it. In smaller surf it impacted responsiveness a hair, but in bigger surf I can only imagine the weight difference I (perceived to) notice would be negligible.

Regarding cost/educating customer base: After the sample test I am a firm believer that your Wax Mat provides significantly more traction than any other alternative (short of a thick EVA foam pad) I have been exposed to on the market. I’m gonna put it on the new shortboard Rob just made for me. This is a revolutionary product for the surf world, but like any revolution/significant change, the challenge is proper education. I think the biggest challenge for us as a retailer of this product is educating our customer base that the increase in cost relative to buying individual bars of wax results in a dramatic improvement for performance.

All in all I am extremely stoked on this great product you’ve made. You’ve turned me into a Wax Mat user for sure. Mahalo for the opportunity.
