SurfCo Hawaii was established in 1986 when Eric Arakawa and I, David Skedeleski, invented the Nose Guard as the best solution for reducing injuries caused by the hard fiberglass nose tips of surfboards.
Since then, we have developed other Guards for a wide range of board shapes and sizes, drastically reducing injuries to surfers worldwide.
Pro Teck fins were developed after our son received a severe fin cut to his inner thigh that required over 200 stitches. As my wife and I watched the surgeon work on our son, I vowed to develop surfboard fins that would prevent surfers from experiencing such a traumatic injury.
Pro Teck fins have a flexible urethane edge that greatly reduces the chances of fin cuts and enhances board performance. We discovered that the flexible trailing edge allows water to flow off the fin smoother, with less turbulence or cavitation, compared to conventional rigid fins. A “rudder action” also occurs while turning the board, as water pressure bends the flexible trailing edge, creating tighter and more fluid turns, like the fins of dolphins and sharks.
Pro Teck fins are available in three models—Performance, Power Flex, and Super Flex—and a range of sizes for all surfing skill levels
We also developed a nonabrasive grip tape called Wax Mat as an alternative to messy wax. The Wax Mat has better wet grip than wax and will last the life of the board. It is also used on boat decks as Marine Grip. A version for the bath market is being developed and will be called Bath Grip.
